Displacement cannot be replaced by anything other than even more displacement. Ducati also drilled the two-cylinder engine known from the 916 to 996 cc at the end of the 1990s. With success not only in racing.
Hardly distinguishable from the outside of the 916, the 996 had been revised very well. For example, the engine housing was strengthened and the V2 engine was equipped with 2 injection nozzles per cylinder. 116 HP and thus 8 HP more than in the 916 and 10% more torque at the same speed result from the changes in the engine.
